Meet Pat Russell, Director of Nursing

Each of our staff members plays an integral part in making Hooverwood a place that feels like home, and we hope you’ll get to meet them all soon. Today, we shine the spotlight on Pat, our Director of Nursing, who has been caring for our residents since 1972.

So Pat, what brought you to Hooverwood?

I’ve lived in Indy for 42 years and worked in nursing for 46 years. I applied to Hooverwood because it was recommended by an acquaintance as a great new facility with caring staff and flexible hours. I was ready to return to work when my daughter turned 1, but I needed the flexibility that a hospital could not offer!

What do you look forward to every day at Hooverwood?

Every day, I look forward to making the residents happy and comfortable as well as having a positive influence on long-term care.

What do you think makes the Hooverwood nursing staff so great?

Our staff is great because we have teamwork, high standards, great medical directors, and the support of the administration and board. We’re like a caring, functioning family.

What’s a day in your life at Hooverwood like?

I arrive early, get the report from the night shift, and review staffing. I make frequent rounds to check on the residents’ needs as well as the staff’s needs and performance. I audit charts, order supplies, confer with Medical Directors as needed and meet with families as needed.

At the end of the day, I meet with the evening staff as they arrive and make rounds again. A lot of the day is paperwork, paperwork, and meetings, meetings, meetings! But every day is different, and each one brings new challenges and rewards.
