Last week, there was not a dry eye at the party for Mary Ann Pavlides, who, after ten years of dedicated service at Hooverwood, is now retiring.
Mary Ann worked the evening shift and filled in as the relief nursing supervisor. She has been a nurse for over fifty years, with many years of nursing experience in hospital settings, including critical care and cardiology.
“I never thought I would ever work in a nursing home,” said Mary Ann during the party. “But I knew Hooverwood was the right place to work because they allow nurses to be nurses. We are able to really spend time with our residents.”
As the residents and staff gathered around the 1B nursing station to bid farewell to Mary Ann, a few us of took turns sharing our favorite special memories and experiences with Mary Ann. A new nurse thanked her for taking the time to explain, to answer questions, and to teach. And of course, everyone enjoyed one of Hooverwood’s amazing homemade chocolate cakes.
If you haven’t had the privilege to know Mary Ann, you still have a chance. Mary Ann intends to continue her relationship with Hooverwood as a volunteer in the activity department, and she looks forward to sharing her talents and experience in massage and aromatherapy with the residents.
Hooverwood is incredibly grateful to have caring and experienced professionals like Mary Ann on our team. Thanks again, Mary Ann, for your wonderful service!
