Celebrating a Thousand Years of Life

Last week was a special occasion at Hooverwood. There was cake and live music. There were children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren visiting. There was even a news crew! All because we were gathering to celebrate the 100th (or more!) birthdays of ten Hooverwood residents.

The day started with hair and makeup appointments for our honorees and was followed by a photoshoot with a professional photographer, who captured our residents’ remarkable resilience and lasting beauty. At one point, we had all ten residents’ 1,000-plus years of life experience gathered in one place for the camera!

In the afternoon, residents’ families joined us for cake and enjoyed live music by Susan Boots. FOX59 stopped by the party to interview the honorees about their “secrets” to living a long life, which, as it turns out, are not as secret as we might think.

This was such an exciting day for our staff to witness, too. If we’ve learned anything from our residents, it’s that each new day is a celebration in its own right, and to see a hundred years of them put together is a rare and wonderful occasion. We’re thankful to have had this opportunity to honor our residents, whose lives and stories could fill a whole series’ worth of incredible documentaries, and we wish them all health and happiness in the years to come.
