History . . .
Hooverwood traces its roots back to 1907, with the founding of the Jewish Shelter House on the south side of Indianapolis.  Our original mission was to provide a home for the wandering poor.  The Old Folk's Home was added to the organization following World War I.  In 1939, The Borinstein Home on Central Avenue opened offering medical as well as residential care, focusing on the elderly population.  Hooverwood was established at its present location in 1970, and has grown to become a well-recognized and respected skilled nursing facility, specializing in rehabilitation therapy, dementia care, and adult day services.  As a teaching facility, we strive to stay abreast of new initiatives and services in caregiving.  For over a century, from our humble beginnings to our newly renovated home, we have provided care for the elderly and remain committed to a tradition of healthcare excellence.
